लीना चंदावरकर एक भारतीय पूर्व अभिनेत्री हैं जो बॉलीवुड फिल्मों में एक प्रमुख अभिनेत्री के रूप में दिखाई दीं और अब रियलिटी शो में दिखाई देती हैं। वह 60 के दशक के अंत और 70 के दशक की शुरुआत में एक अभिनेत्री थीं।

जीवनी

लीना चंदावरकर का जन्म 1950 में कर्नाटक के धारवाड़ में एक कोंकणी मराठी भाषी सेना अधिकारी श्रीनाथ चंदावरकर के घर हुआ था। उन्हें सुनील दत्त के साथ राज कुमार और मुमताज़ की भूमिका वाली फिल्म मसीहा (1967) से शुरुआत करनी थी, वह भी सुनील दत्त के निर्देशन में। फिल्म ठंडे बस्ते में चली गई और उन्होंने सुनील दत्त के निर्देशन में 1968 में फिल्म मन का मीत  से अपनी शुरुआत की। फिल्म हिट रही और वह रातोंरात स्टार बन गईं। वह 70 के दशक की शुरुआत में हेमा मालिनी और मुमताज के साथ शीर्ष अभिनेत्रियों में से एक थीं। उनके एक बड़े भाई अनिल चंदावरकर थे जिन्होंने निर्देशक आत्माराम की बेटी से शादी की और शादी से उनकी एक बेटी है। उन्होंने 1985 में आत्महत्या कर ली। उन्होंने बाद में दो फिल्मों के लिए वापसी करने के लिए गायक किशोर कुमार के साथ शादी के बाद बॉलीवुड छोड़ दिया।

फिल्मफेयर द्वारा देश भर में आयोजित फ्रेश फेस प्रतियोगिता के उपविजेता के रूप में समाप्त होने के बाद चंदावरकर सुर्खियों में आए। शुरुआत में उन्होंने विज्ञापनों में काम किया लेकिन बाद में फिल्मों में कदम रखा। उन्होंने सुनील दत्त के लिए मन का मीट में अपनी शुरुआत की, और यह उनकी पत्नी नरगिस थी जिन्होंने उन्हें एक अभिनेत्री बनने के लिए तैयार किया। 1969 से 1979 के बीच लीना ने कई फिल्मों में काम किया। उन्हें उस दौर के कई लोकप्रिय नायकों के साथ कास्ट किया गया था। उन्होंने 1971 में राजेश खन्ना के साथ महबूब की मेहंदी में अपना सर्वश्रेष्ठ प्रदर्शन दिया।

व्यक्तिगत जीवन

उन्होंने अपने पहले पति सिद्धार्थ बंदोदकर से अरेंज मैरिज की थी, जो गोवा के एक प्रमुख राजनीतिक परिवार से आते थे। शादी के कुछ दिनों बाद, एक दुर्घटनावश गोली लगने से उनकी मृत्यु हो गई, जिससे लीना 25 साल की उम्र में विधवा हो गई। कुछ साल बाद, उन्होंने गायक किशोर कुमार से शादी कर ली। उसके पिता ने शुरू में आपत्ति जताई क्योंकि कुमार की पहले ही तीन बार शादी हो चुकी थी, और वह उससे 20 साल से अधिक उम्र का था, लेकिन वह जल्द ही आ गया और कुमार का परिवार में स्वागत किया। किशोर कुमार से उनका एक बेटा है जिसका नाम सुमित गांगुली है। किशोर की 1987 में मृत्यु हो गई, लीना एक बार फिर 37 साल की उम्र में विधवा हो गई। वह अपने बेटे सुमीत, अपने सौतेले बेटे अमित कुमार और उसकी पत्नी के साथ रहती है।

Biography

Leena Chandavarkar was born to a Konkani Marathi speaking Army officer Sreenath Chandavarkar at Dharwad in Karnataka in 1950. She was supposed to debut with the film Maseeha (1967) opposite Sunil Dutt costarring Raaj Kumar and Mumtaz too under the direction of Sunil Dutt himself. The film got shelved and she made her debut under the direction of Sunil Dutt with the movie Man ka Meet in 1968. The movie was a hit and she became an overnight star. She was one of the topmost heroines in early 70s alongside Hema Malini and Mumtaz. She had an elder brother Anil Chandavarkar who married director Atmaram's daughter and has a daughter from the marriage. He committed suicide in 1985. She quit Bollywood after marriage with singing legend Kishore Kumar only to return for two movies later.

Career

Chandavarkar came into the limelight after finishing as one of the runners-up for the Fresh Face Competition organized across the country by Filmfare. Initially, she worked in advertisements but eventually ventured into films. She made her debut in Man Ka Meet for Sunil Dutt, and it was his wife Nargis who groomed her to be an actress. Between 1969 and 1979, Leena acted in many films. She was cast opposite many of popular heroes of that era. She gave one of her best performances in Mehboob Ki Mehndi with Rajesh Khanna in 1971.

Bairaag, in 1976, is another example where she acted with Dilip Kumar and an ensemble star cast of Saira Bano, Prem Chopra and Helen.

She appeared as a guest judge for the first 2 episodes of "K for Kishore", a new reality TV singing show launched by Sony TV during December 2007. She is now appearing for the reality shows. She also penned some songs for Amit Kumar and Rajesh Bambal for a music album.

Personal life

She had an arranged marriage to her first husband, Siddharth Bandodkar, who came from a prominent Goan political family. He died from an accidental gunshot wound, a few days into the marriage, leaving Leena a widow at age 25. A few years later, she married singing legend Kishore Kumar. Her father initially objected because Kumar had been married three times already, and was more than 20 years older than her, but he soon came around and welcomed Kumar into the family. She has a son with Kishore Kumar named Sumit Ganguly. Kishore died in 1987, leaving Leena once again a widow at age 37. She lives with her son Sumeet, her step-son Amit Kumar, and his wife.
